Rod Barton Brussels is please to present FOX HILL ROAD, a solo show of new work by Tel Aviv based Guy Yanai. This is the artists first solo show with the gallery and his first solo show in Brussels. The name for the exhibition is taken from the street where Yanai moved to at the age of seven in the suburbs of Boston from his hometown of Haifa. In hindsight, the contrast of this move has been a central hidden pillar in the tension of his paintings. From a Mediterranean port city in an area of conflict to a New England suburb of an almost exaggerated "quality of life" and order. Though his family only lived in the house for four years, that time has remained both a significant time of childhood and concurrently a sort of "black hole" where many memories and experiences have been lost. Arriving with nether the language nor the cultural attributes during the height of the cold war.

The works in FOX HILL ROAD at first might seem to be of an incoherent thematic realization. Houses from the Fox Hill Road ( from Google street view) , The old city of Arrezo (depicting Jerusalem) after Piero della Francesca, Plants from Hotel Regina in Cimiez ( where Matisse lived ), plants from trips, images found other sources, and other concerns that have preoccupied Yanai for the past few years. The glue putting all of these polar subjects together is the manner of Yanai's painting, one of usually applying the paint with a flat brush horizontally across the linen.
